RE: 8 yr old, SPD, urinary incontinence?
One other thing I do with my restroom troubles is take a book with me into the restroom. This won't work in school, because it takes too long. But basically when I am reading, my muscles can relax enough so it doesn't hurt so much (or I don't "register" the pain as much). The is necessary if I need to take a major shit after constipation or have diahrea.

RE: 8 yr old, SPD, urinary incontinence?
Thank you Mike, I am glad to hear it is getting easier. I think it will get easier still as time is passing. For instance, sometimes my urge to use the restroom I feel nauseated. I think our bodies detect the sensations incorrectly, once he realizes what sensation belongs to what urge, it will get even easier.
I am very glad to hear your update

THank you for your thoughtful response and for sharing your personal situation. It sounds like you've been through a lot.
Since I originally posted we have seen some improvement. Though he is still wet often when he gets home from school, it has lessened over the past two months so that it at least doesn't often show through his clothing and the smell is less pronounced. Hopefully he is beginning to appreciate the constant reminders to go to the bathroom several times a day whether he needs to or not. When not in the school environment he will even go a whole day occaisionally without having the issue.
We are persevering with the praise and support and are comforted by your response that he is at least not alone.
Best to you.
Mike
