My 8 yr old son is newly diagnosed with SPD. His main issues lie with sound sensitivity (not being able to concentrate because of all the "annoying" as he says, sounds around him. He is also overly sensitive emotionally much of the time. He has difficulty transitioning from one activity to another.

He is currently in an open concept elementry school. (no walls and doors, just floor to ceiling partitions between rooms). I can not find any clear answer of whether this is a bad school type for him to be in. We could move him to a regular elementry school but would it make that much of a difference? He still has to deal with noise. Plz anyone with expereince in this area give me some advice. thank you.

I do not know about an open concept school, but what I can tell you is that in a regular classroom there is not so much action I would assume, my son is taken out of the cafeteria and eats in a separate classroom to give him a chance to re-group and get away from all the stimulation and noise. My son is 8 also, it could possibly be too much stimulation and if he is telling you then I am sure it is true to fact . Can you go in and see how the day is?
