RE: Food dyes and allergies
Quote:Sparklepanda, I swear I've notices something with tomatoes and raspberries, too, but my husband thinks I'm nuts b/c there is nothing added to them. What have you noticed? Has removing those things from the diet made a noticeable change, too?
Tomatoes, raspberries, strawberries, cherries etc, processed meats like salami & parmesan cheese have salicylates in them, which some ppl are sensitive to and produce behaviour changes. He reacts the same as if we had given him Tartrazine...out of control, hyper, babbling, unable to focus or listen. To look at him you would swear he had adhd. It happens within 20 mins of eating and lasts about an hour. Limiting the amount he has at a time works really well. We know if he's had too much! So you can safely ignore your husband on this one.

RE: Food dyes and allergies
We've had my son off food dye (as best as we can) since early October. At first I though I noticed a big improvement, but now I'm wondering if it was just wishful thinking.
Either way, I don't think food dyes are healthy so we are skipping them for now.

RE: Food dyes and allergies
We never gave them to our kids, from day 1. No artificial coloyrs, flavours, or flavour enhancers. We also avoided annato which is a natural colour & flavour, labelled as 160b in Australia, known to cause behavioural changes too. So its the reverse of what most people have done: we never saw a change from eliminating them, but from when other people had given them to him.And it is VERY obvious.
If you are eliminating, I would give it a good month or two - these things build up a toxic load in your body which takes time to eliminate - and then reintroduce one colour. Orange will do the tricks usually. Stand back. :o
