New here and hoping to learn more about how to help my Lovey
My 4 almost 5 year old daughter Alexys was diagnosed with SPD and OCD back in October. She has been showing symptoms for some time now, I would say it least a year. I thought she was just more difficult or maybe even spoiled so didn’t really think much of it until this past summer when I started taking my 3 year old nephew every weekend. It became real apparent that Lovey (that’s what I call her) was going through something more than other kids. She was so anxious about things and constantly would tell me her belly was nervous and upset. It took us hours sometimes to get her out of the house or to bed. She will only wear certain pants and panties, one brand of socks and even those don’t always feel "right" or "hurt her". She covers her ears at the slightest noise and screams for the noise to stop. She can't stand to be in a big group of kids or even a crowded place because she says it’s too loud. The blankets on her bed have to be perfectly straight with no wrinkles or it "hurts her". Those are just the bad things; she has several other things that don’t cause as much anxiety but still "hurt her". She is so fun loving and affectionate but only with certain people. She hates to go to unfamiliar places out of fear of noise or the unknown. It breaks my heart to see her so upset about these things and honestly some days I feel like crawling in a hole with just her me and daddy and not coming out. I hope that talking with all of you and sharing advice and stories will help me understand more of what she goes through every day so that I can better help her.

Awww hugs and welcome to both of you. Sorry you are having such a rough time. Have you gone to an OT for an evaluation yet? Are there any other things you've tried?

Thank you!
We are seeing a clinical right now. She is great and its really seems to be helping but my insurance, at this point is calling it mental health and not medical so they are not covering her visits. She was originally dx with the OCD so I am hopeing that once the dx officially includes the SPD they will reevaluate that because I can not afford to pay for the visits out of pocket. What she has covered with her so far she seems to be getting better about and I am getting better about knowing when a melt down is coming and trying to deter it. It just breaks my heart to watch her go through all this.
