hello, my name is Nikki and i have 2 boys 12 and 3. my 3 yr old was just recently diagnosed with sensory processing disorder and A.D.D.. To start out Gavin was born 8 wks early. weighing in at a whopping 4pds 11oz. from that very moment i was nervous even tho this was my 2nd boy. he had to b held tight or he would cry. only ate 1-2 ounces every hour . exhausted , my pediatrician kept re assuring us it was just average preemie symptoms. he wouldnt eat cheerios, walk , crawl, or talk well. finally at 15 months he dared to eat a cheerio. and by 2 he walks when he wants to but most of the time crawls because he insists he a race care
( lightning Mcqueen ) and continues to think that. he will b 4 next month. finally about a month ago we met a really great child psychologist who with in 30 minutes told me what was wrong.. and for the last 3 years the pediatrician had me thinking i was crazy because in his 10 min. check visits he didnt see what i was talking about. so since being diagnosed with spd ive read SO MUCH! just wanted to introduce my self and i look forward to talking and exchanging good ideas.
thanks for reading.

Hi Nikki,
Welcome!! Yes, you are not crazy. I thought I was crazy too -- my pedi for my son kept telling me the same thing after his regression. He is 10 months old now and was diagnosed with SPD. He cannot self soothe, cannot sit still EVER (big time seeker in that regard), doesn't want to be held, FTT, etc. etc. I KNEW I was not CRAZY but in the 10 or 15 minutes spent with your child, how are they going to know what is really going on day in and day out? I am newer to the site as well but I do find that everyone understands here. My son is only 10 months old so I was thrilled to get a diagnosis so early... but I had to push and push to get him in front of a Speech Therapist (for feeding) and Occupational THerapist -- and both were like, "MAJOR SENSORY INTEGRATION DISORDER". Ahhhhh, the light is on now and we are starting to get some help. Again, welcome -- glad you have found us and if there is anything you need, just post!
