Question for you all. Are/Is your kid(s) currently diagnosed with SPD along with Autism spectrum disorders? If so... what led you to get the second diagnosis whether it was Autism first or SPD? Would you do it again? Are you having problems with your insurance paying for treatments for spectrum kids as opposed to simply diagnosed SPD?
I have been told in OK that BCBSOK will NOT cover any treatments for my boys after they are 6 due to a dx of Autism or any developmental delay. Has anyone had experience with this? They doctor is wanting me to take my eldest to a behavioral specialist and now they are recommending we get assessed for Autism and my youngest son they are wanting to go to a peds psychologist for a dx of autism spectrum. Any suggestions?

My older son is dx with SPD and anxiety. The SPD came first then once he started seeing a psychologist, the anxiety was dx. He was evaluated for autism when he was 6 but didn't fit enough of the criteria. Sometimes I wonder if I should have him reevaluated or not.

Our insurance never covered any OT, but his social skills group is covered. There is a boy in his group who is dx PDD-NOS. Another is SPD and ADHD. Not sure about the 4th boy.

Our coverage has varied a lot over the years and doesn't seem to have much to do with the dx more the individual plan. I think insurance avoids paying for things that theoretically the school should be providing however getting an educational diagnosis of Autism is much more difficult than a medical one so a child could have a diagnosis and lots of needs and the school is not providing services because they don't see the needs as educational. The school is not responsible to the insurance company nor is the insurance company responsible to the school so parents end up rather stuck in the middle.

My girlfriend's younger son was also diagnosed with SPD and she's been dealing with insurance issues ever since. I'm gonna have to tell her come see this post personally. I'm trying to digest pretty much everything about kids and their problems because I wanna help those poor souls and their parents tackle behavioral issues.
