ADULT SPD HAS BEEN A LIFELONG ISSUE
Well what brings me here is that I'm looking for support from other adults who live with SPD. I grew up with this sensitivity to noises mostly. From as early as a young teenager I've suffered with feeling emotional and physical pain from noises in my environment. I'm here to make some new friends who can identify and share how they cope in the world. It is myself who has this disorder. Although I have seen milder reactions in both my grown daughters. I have always felt that there was something wrong with me. I have run my life around buffering myself from places where the noise levels and pitches are so irritating. But as time has gone on my world has gotten smaller and smaller. Less places I can go and I always need to know I can leave if I have to because the sounds are too much for me to endure. So things I love are effected. Yoga classes are difficult when people are deep breathing. That bothers me. The movies and theater are passions but if people are eating the sounds of chewing and crunching make me crazy. I love the beach I but radios playing and kids yelling and having fun arouse anger in me. Then eating out. I love eating out but finding a place to sit where s not noisy or some child isn't crying or someone bumping my chair it's all very dramatic for me and I eyeball the restaurant before being seated to try to seek out a place I handle so I can enjoy my meal. I carry earplugs at all times and end up using them a lot. So that's just a mere fraction of life living with this affliction
Now on the other side of this is a woman who loves the outdoors. Kayaking the beach walking at sunsets along the beach. Dating nice men and enjoying new experiences while hoping to met the right one. Also there's the theater and travel and art shows and my kids and grandkids. I have so much to be grateful for. And all it takes to feel calm and centered for me is to not be triggered by outside annoying sounds. Earplugs are my saving grace. I buy 100 pair at a time.
So I hope I'm not alone here. Please feel free to contact me
Thanks
