Hi!
I'm Audrey, and I've just joined. I've never been diagnosed with SPD, but my sister is a kindergarten teacher, and she has been dealing lately with a lot of children that do have it. And she decided that I also had it when I was growing up. Which of course got me interested, and looking at the list of adult symptoms, it seems to me that I definitely still have it now.
People are always telling me that I am overdramatic or extreme (for example, people think I am just overreacting when I have to leave the room because someone has started chewing blueberry gum, and I am afraid that if I stay in the room I will vomit) when for me I am just reacting as I see fit. At 28, I still get laughed at because I am always fidgeting or playing with something.
I find that, in order to cope, I overdramatize everything in my life, so at least I then seem balanced.
The list goes on. Anyhow, so I thought I'd join to see how other people cope and to try to figure out if this is something that truly does affect me.
I'm psyched to be here! :-)

Hey brizmus (Audrey)!
Welcome to SPD International. I am really glad to hear you have found a reason for your struggles and have made your way over to our quiet corner of the web. I am thrilled to have you here. I can sympathize with much of what you wrote, especially since I go through a lot of the same issues myself. It sounds to me like you are definitely sensory defensive. Is there anything me, or one of our other members might be able to help you with? A question we might be able to answer?
Anyhow, it's nice to meet you. Is there anything you'd like to share about yourself interest wise? Unlike most SPD sites, I think it would be awesome if this site more of a 'general chat' atmosphere, where we all understand each other as SPDers and SPD parents. That being said, SPD is still the focus, but it's always good to get to know people for more than just that you know?
I hope you really enjoy your stay here and get all the support you need! Welcome again.
Hi, welcome to SPD Support! Have a free cyber hug!

Hi I just joined...but wanted to let you know that my husband has issues with certain smells (our babies dirty diapers for example ;-)...he will actually gag and at times has thrown up from a smell. He and I both seem to have some sensory issues, and our two youngest children have been diagnosed with SPD.
I look forward to getting to know you better!
Ali

I think this is a great site for people. I have really felt alone with SPD for awile, Actually for the longest time I thought I was just weird.. Adter really studying this I have found that I def have it. I eat only a couple different things and can't even decide if I like other food when I try it. I'm constantly pushing each finger into my thumbs all day, thats only naming a couple things. I wish people would better understand what we go through.
