Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and came across it looking for information on spd. My little girl has turned two and is currently going through the communication and social pathway for what was originally suspect autism but they seem to be mentioning spd more and more! I have to be honest and say until now I hadn't really heard of it, and wonders if anyone could give me there thoughts or any advice! My lo failed her 12mth assessment on gross motor skills and communication which was the first time the problems were raised the hv team continued to support us. At 12 months my lo had no verbal skills, wasn't a great sleeper and couldn't chew foods. A year later she will now talk about 25 words but only with us at home and clams up outside our house, she is still a very picky eater decides to eat food on the feel of it in her hands, she drifts off it to her own world anywhere but home and won't interact! She is obsessed by her pushchair and screams if you take her out of it in public, lives routine and doesn't seem to understand instructions, and also loves doing on, off, in , out activities such as shoes on and off which she has done 27 times today?? I have no experience in this and just wondered if this sounded like spd to anyone and help greatly appreciated x

Hi
Firstly sorry but you dont tend to get much response on here. Jenny is lovely and will probably comment to you.
Secondly I am no expert but from the "experts" I have met i seem to no more/have a greater understanding than they do. This is in the uk
From what I have found out all the things you mention are connected. I have a two and a half year old girl who I have been told will "grow out of" her sensory issues but I have given up on paediatrics and spoken to a private friend who immediately says asd and the sensory issues are things we have to work with.
If you can get to see an occupational therapist they seem to be the most help. I am slowly being turned down by hospitals probably because if my anger at their ignorance but I will get there in the end.
I hope I helped a bit and don't hesitate to post to me again.
Good luck.
