Here's a simple question: what is/are your favorite movie(s)?
American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, and The Godfather are my all time favorites (all rated R... how sad...). As for animation, I thoroughly enjoy anything that Miyazaki or Pixar make, Howl's Moving Castle and Wall-E standing above the others.

Oh goodness, such a simple question, but I've never had a simple answer!
I would have to say that it depends upon the kind of movie:
Comedy: Pretty much any tasteful, humorous comedy. Particulars: John Candy movies (Canadian Bacon, Uncle Buck, Spaceballs, etc.), Robin Hood Men In Tights, Princess Bride, The Simpson's Movie, the early Adam Sandler pics, Austin Powers trilogy, Naked Gun films, Baseketball.... the list just keeps going.
Epics/Trilogies: Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars, Matrix trilogy
Action: Die Hard, Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill I&II
Drama: Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List
Family/childhood movies: Toy Story, Lion King, Bambi, Dumbo, Shrek
I know I'm missing a ton of movies there, but that's the basic overview.

Miyazaki rocks! I still haven't gotten to see My Neighbor Tortoro, though.
I've the same issue. Favorite anything is problematic. As far as impact on my life, the Lord of the Rings trilogy would make it, simply because the books were so much a part of my life. But I also love things like The Matrix, and Underworld, and Hellboy. Stuff like that. But camp makes it for me, so Shanghai Shuffle, or Kill Bill, or Shrek. Or maybe something serious, like Schindler's List, or Rob Roy, or The Green Mile. Or unintentionally funny, like Waterworld, or so many b-movies I can't recall. Just don't give me that romantic comedy balogna; if the entire plot is based on lying to someone and getting into annoying situations because of it, you've lost my interest and respect. About the only romantic comedy I love is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There was that moment where I went, oh no, she's gonna lie to him and kill the entire movie for me, and she told the truth, and it worked. Btw, she totally stole my story, except my family is weird without coming from Greece. lol
So, what was the question?

Hmmm, here's a list.
Ran
Pulp Fiction
Goodfellas
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Akira
Princess Mononoke
Ponyo
Cannibal Holocaust
The Godfather I & II
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original, accept no substitutes!)
The Descent
Last Tango In Paris
The Wild Bunch
Ichi the Killer
Brazil
Phantasm II
Battle Royale
Kill Bill I & II
The Fountain
That's just what came up on the top of my head the last 60 seconds. Heh.

Star Wars IV, V, VI (hated I, II, III)
Ever After
Stargate (just the movie and not the TV show)
Spaceballs
Princess Bride
Mulan
Beauty and the Beast
Kill Bill I & II
Robin Hood: Men in Tights (best of the Robin Hood movies)
I Married A Witch (1942, but best romantic fantasy ever)
Ginger Snaps (horror movie)
Not necessarily favorite films, but pretty much any movie with Will Smith in it I enjoy greatly.

I actually just watched "This Is What Democracy Looks Like" today; it is a documentary about the Battle of Seattle. I must say it is one of the more powerful films I have watched; I think I definitely have to put it into my favorites now.
Wow, I'm really digging everyone's movie favorites! Very nice guys! You have some good tastes!
