I just have to share this to let all of you new to this diagnosis that therapy and consistancy does work!!!! Last night my son was at scouts ( I always stay because you never know what might happen!) he was playing a game with another boy where you had to put this thing on your head and ask questions to guess who you are... well..... ( here is my proud moment coming up!) the boy went up to my son to put the thing on his head and .... ready..... my son told him.... "Don't, I just don't like to be touched" OMG!!!!!!! I was so excited!!!!!!!!! He did not haul off and hit him, he did not scream, he USED HIS WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!! He rocked!!!!! This is soooooo huge!!!!!! I want to say you have no idea, but you all do know!!!! I could not have gotten a better gift from him! I just had to share!!!!! Ok, I am done being a dork!

How exciting!! I can picture it. I'm so happy for you!
Last week our OT came out at the end of the session to tell us our daughter got distracted while working on buttons, which usually means she has to be repeatedly told to get back on task, but last week she got distracted for about a minute, then realized she had been in the middle of buttons, and on her own went back to it and finished buttoning the vest--all independently. Isn't it wonderful when our kiddos do something so monumental!

Heather it made me cry when I read it. I look forward to the day my son says what is wrong instead of melting down.

Thanks! It will come!!!!! I have witnessed it! When I went to his school for his Christmas program the aid he eats lunch with told me that he tells her a lot when he doesn't like something. I was telling her about what had happened and she said when he first started coming to eat with her that he would pull away if she walked past him and touched him on his shoulder, now she said he doesn't mind, but he has told her I just don't like to be touched! She also said that she looks forward to him eating with her, that he is very enlightening, holds a mature conversation with her, he is very up beat never has a negative thing to say. ( I am sure she probably knows everything that goes on at home! ahahahahahahah) It was great to hear, we started off the school year horribly, he has finally adjusted and seems to be having a much better time. It took a few months, but he has got it. ( now if there was no summer break and the pattern wouldn't be broke! lol) So, as I knock on wood as I write all this so he keeps it up!!!

Congratulations!! And to him as well. Sometimes all the worry and anxiety is all worth it when you see them do something great.
I bet it felt great to slather on the praise after that meeting was over.

That is wonderful news!!!! It just shows that hard work and dedication will pay off
I think the game you are describing is called Head Bands--It's very popular in my area. We are working with our son in describing faces and characters so for xmas he received the Star Wars Guess Who Game/Apples to Apples. To him, they are just games he has no idea that it's teaching him how to be descriptive about a person/character. It's a work in progress, but he's having fun doing it. ( :
