I'm a sensory avoider. I'm tired of sticky handles, floors, counter tops! One of my kids (9yr old boy) may be SPD as well but he's a sensation seeker and is sensory unaware. Basically my opposite. He has NO clue that his face is messy after a meal. He has no clue that his hands are messy and gets the handles gooey. How do you teach awareness? We live in an area where it is hard to get into an OT

Oh god, I don't think my fiancé has SPD at all but he is SO INSANELY unaware! It's polar opposite to me. He ashes cigarettes on his shirt, drops food on himself and the floor, etc. He is admittedly careless but it's also because he's 6 foot 8, he's so tall that he's a bull in a china shop. I've tried to make changes in him but he's an adult and its not happening lol, so I just have to try my hardest to fix the issues immediately after they happen; when he drops food I pick it up. When his cigarette ash looks long, I'll grab the ashtray and tap the cigarette onto it. Anything valuable cant be on the floor because he won't notice and he'll step on it. This is the only way I've found to make his habits "softer". The rest of it, I've learned to ignore the rest... Ummm but this isn't all that good advice for parenting, I would not recommend catering to him or ignoring bad habits. I'd love to hear advice from someone knowledgable on this though.
