MTHFR? - sylvia - 08-19-2016 Has anyone on here been tested for mutations of the MTHFR gene? I was reviewing some old test results for my son, that a Naturopath had ordered 4 years ago, and noticed that she had circled and starred that my son tested positive for 2 mutations of this gene. I've recently read some info about how this gene mutation can affect health and has been linked to autism, adhd, etc..... Haven't thought much of it at the time, but now am wondering what the connection is. RE: MTHFR? - CharlieCabo1 - 09-21-2016 Hi Sylvia Which mutation does he have two of? C677t or the other one A??? My son also positive for one mutation of the C677t. The C677t is the bodies ability to convert and use Folic Acid and the B12. If he cant convert it, they are not used, and can be toxic sitting in the body, additionally, hes not getting any of those necessary nutrients. His labwork will show HIGH B12 levels but specialists know what other labs to look at (counter with low of something else on the lab work-I cant recall the name at the moment) Keep in mind, and look up low B12. It can cause Depression. Folic acid has its issues also. I know of TWO FANTASTIC doctors who are well skilled with this: Dr Melanie Alarcio, Pediatric Neurologist, in Arizona and Dr David Berger, Pediatrician, Wholestic Pediatrics in Tampa Florida. Both of these doctors states, "Lets clean up the labs and see what we have left". I LOVE that approach, no band aids, no drugs to treat symptoms. They are both great at getting to the source and treating the source. If he has a two copy mutation, you really need to follow up on this! For starters he will most likely be put on methylcobabullin (converted form of B12)injections and an MTHF supplement. I hope this helps RE: MTHFR? - sylvia - 09-22-2016 Thank you SO much for your reply. My son has double mutation of the A1289C, and he has just been diagnosed with depression. I am trying to connect some dots here and it looks like I need to dig a little deeper. Thank you for the doctor recommendation, we are in Oregon so I will see who I can find in our area. I will probably go back to the Naturopath who initially did the genetic testing. I'm mad at myself for not realizing what this was years ago. From what I've read, since my son has a double mutation, that must mean that my husband and I have at least a single mutation? This may help us figure out our health too. That was very helpful, thank you for taking the time to write your post. It would be great if this was a piece of the puzzle to help my son feel better. Thank you!
