New to SPD and looking for any advice - Brigitte - 05-13-2016 Hello everyone I'm new to SPD having only really come across it the past few months... My adopted son, who experienced early life trauma, demonstrates a number of sensory challenges. We have an appointment with an OT next week where I really hope they will take me seriously as we went a few years back and were just advised to continue as we were doing as that he seemed to be managing.. but the challenges are becoming more significant and I really need help. One of our major challenge is clothes, especially underpants. I thought I might have cracked it when I found seamless boxers but he tried them on and said no straight away.. Not to get too technical (!) but the problem seems to be fabric touching just below his penis/scrotum. Does anyone else have this issue?.. I hate to see him uncomfortable and it can sometimes cause him to have a meltdown, but I've tried every style possible, different sizes, different fabrics and I can't find ones that he's comfortable. I separated from my husband close to 2 years ago and his range of sensory issues has increased since then making the GP and CAMHS suspect anxiety .. I agree with them but unfortunately Dad won't recognise sensory issues as real... which is interesting as I think he's on the spectrum and may have some sensory issues himself... so please any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.. also anyone who has been through an OT program please let me know how you managed to get them to help you.. My son doesn't have many tantrums but he's really struggling at school due to very poor concentration and school also suspect he has problems self regulating... many thanks and look forward to hearing from some of you..
